Bassenthwaite and Skiddaw. Boxing day Bassenthwaite. View from Grisedale Pike, Christmas eve 2006. Inversion in Borrowdale Valley.
This picture was taken on the 27th november 2005. I only live 5 miles from here and some early mornings the lake can be found perfectly still and the result is some fantastic scenes. Another Bassenthwaite scene, this time taken on boxing day morning, 2005. West Cumbria had been covered in a blanket of fog and mist for a few days, however, one weather forecast has said that the cloud level was around 200/300m. I set out early morning in the hope I would find this. I was not disappointed. The climb was through dense freezing fog and I was amazed at how warm it was once above it. I had been to the stonecircle many times hoping for something different with the picture. On this day I was driving nearby and decided to call in and was so glad I did. This was one of those mornings, everwhere you looked there was a great view. The mist was slowly lifting up form Derwent and is was great to see how the colours were changing miniute by minute. This is one of my favorite pictures, I had set up the tripod and just waiting for around 30mins until the right time. This was not a great morning for me taking pictures, I was trying to sneak around and capture the swan that was feeding. It would take me a little bit of time to get round to a position that would be good and then the swan would swim off in the opposite direction. I was getting extremely frustrated and didn't think I had got any images for the morning. I had decided to go wild camping at Lady's Rake, Keswick. This is a view looking down Bassenthwaite out to the Solway.
